From .com to Rocket One: Wall Street’s Endless Rebrand
Wall Street’s hype machine never stops, and somehow, I’m still surprised every time a company contorts itself to chase the trend of the moment.
It started in the late 1990s, when dot-com fever had companies tacking “.com” onto their names. Then in 2017, at the peak of bitcoin and blockchain mania, Long Island Iced Tea Corp rebranded as Long Blockchain Corp. More recently a wave of companies bolted “.AI” onto their names, and Allbirds, my favorite shoe company, became NewBird AI $BIRD. To be fair, that one came with an actual business shift into AI cloud and GPU infrastructure.
Now Hoth Therapeutics $HOTH, a clinical-stage biopharma company that jumped on the crypto bandwagon in 2024 by announcing plans to hold bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset, says it’s changing its name and ticker to Rocket One $RKTO and adding a new focus on the orbital economy and space-based AI systems.
