The week ahead could prove to be one of the most biggest this year for both the gaming and consumer tech industries. Two highly anticipated game releases are set to shake up their respective corners of the market, and Apple $AAPL may finally unveil its long-awaited AI integration at its annual World Wide Developers Conference.
Leslie Benzies, the former producer behind Grand Theft Auto, is launching Mindseye, a cinematic, single-player, action-adventure thriller and the flagship release of his metaverse gaming platform, Everywhere. Meanwhile, blockchain gamers will finally get access to FIFA Rivals, a fast-paced arcade-style mobile soccer game that includes full player ownership of in-game assets. I’ve played an early demo of Mindseye and am excited. Friends with early access to FIFA Rivals say it delivers, and based on gameplay footage I’ve seen I’d agree.
On the consumer tech side, Apple $AAPL is expected to debut the first major redesign of iOS since version 7, and potentially introduce more of its AI suite and Siri integration. While delays have frustrated many, I’ve been encouraged by the beta Apple Intelligence features I’ve tested. Unlike many on Wall Street and in the tech press, I’m not counting Apple out. It may be late to the generative AI race, but it controls a massive ecosystem and holds a data advantage that could quickly shift the balance.
